I thought three months apart would be manageable.
Then three weeks passed.
I missed her more than I expected to. So when she said she’d be coming to Accra for the weekend, I couldn’t resist.
I’d already planned everything, a quiet escape to a secluded beach. The kind of place where the world slows down just enough to make you forget it exists. I packed a soft blanket, and got good food and drinks on the way. Simple things, but perfect for the moment.
When we met at the junction, all my restraint evaporated.
The second I saw her, my body betrayed me, heart racing, every bit of composure suddenly difficult to maintain. I pulled her into a hug and held on longer than I probably should have.
At the same time, I tried not to stare into her eyes.
I knew one more look, one more second, and I’d lose every ounce of control I had left.
The drive to the beach wasn’t particularly eventful. We talked about ordinary things, laughed here and there, and occasionally fell into those little silences that somehow never felt awkward with her.
Every now and then, I looked over.
Just to make sure she was really there.
We reached the beach just as the sun was beginning to dip into the horizon, painting the sky in soft shades of gold. The sound of the waves filled the quiet between us, but even they couldn’t drown out the silence that seemed to carry more than words ever could.
The first thing I did was place my hands gently on her shoulders and look into her eyes. It felt like standing at the edge of something beautiful, something that could undo me with a single breath.
I wanted to memorize her again. Every detail. Every subtle expression.
Not because I had forgotten, but because being near her always made me want to fall in love all over again.
Her hair and eyes caught the evening light like liquid bronze, and her eyes were wide and curious, the kind of gaze that made you feel seen, completely and dangerously so. Her smile could disarm even the stormiest of hearts.
There was a calm sweetness about her, wrapped in that quiet, effortless allure that had drawn me in from the very first day I laid eyes on her.
As the wind brushed past us, carrying the scent of the sea and her perfume ( Touch ) I felt that familiar ache again.
I wanted to stay in that moment forever.
Yet somewhere beneath all that was the quiet awareness that every heartbeat was bringing us closer to our departure something we both knew was coming, but neither of us wanted to acknowledge.
The ocean wind carried the salt of the sea and the warmth of the setting sun as I drew her closer. Our eyes met, an entire conversation passing between us in the silence.
Then I kissed her.
It was slow and tender, carrying everything we had missed and everything we hadn’t known how to say for weeks. For a moment, it felt as though our hearts had somehow found the same rhythm.
There was something consuming about it, yet strangely gentle. I felt the tension leave her shoulders as she settled into the moment. Her hands found my face, holding me there as she kissed me back with an urgency that told me she had missed me just as much.
And somewhere in between, the balance shifted. I wasn’t the one holding on anymore.
She was.
It wasn’t just a kiss.
It felt like recognition. A rediscovery. Like we had known each other for a thousand lifetimes and somehow kept finding our way back to the same place.
When we finally pulled apart, I smiled softly and looked into her eyes, hoping they could read what I didn’t need to say aloud
I’m not going anywhere. I’m all yours.
We changed into something more comfortable and settled onto the blanket by the shore. The sunset spilled gold across the waves, and for a while, neither of us spoke.
We simply sat there,
two souls caught somewhere between the sea, the silence, and the glow.
